Mamdani announces public celebration of New Year’s inauguration

New York Mayor-elect Zohan Mamdani will hold a huge block party on New Year’s Day to celebrate his inauguration.

Some 40,000 are expected to attend with an invite-only public swearing in ceremony led by Sen Bernie Sanders (D-VT) at 1 pm at City Hall.

A private ceremony will take place earlier that day at midnight.

Those interested in attending the block party must RSVP here.

The party will be held on Broadway and stretch seven blocks from Liberty to Murray Streets.

It will be a busy two days in New York and a huge demand on security with the annual ball drop on Times Square the night before.

The Mamdani campaign also announced a 48-member inauguration committee and has raised $3.7 million for the festivities, reported the Korea Herald.

Among those on the committee is bestselling Pachinko author Min Jin Lee.

Others on the committee include actor Kal Penn, Aziz Isham of the Museum of the Moving Image, Kamrul Hasan of the NYPD, Kashif Shaikh of the Pillars Fund, author Priya Parker, Rochelle Lin of the Committee Against Anti-Asian Violence, event producer Shazia Choudri of Beyond Barzakh & Vagabond Media and investment adviser Umit Muradi, reported CBS NY.
